Start QB?
Spring practice ended a few weeks ago and now the dead period in the year-long college football schedule has begun. It will be August when fall camp starts until we hear about Florida football again on a regular basis. That will also be when the million dollar question will reappear into focus. Who will be the starting quarterback for the 2012 Florida Gator football team?

Nothing was settled inthe spring quarterback battle between sophomores Jacoby Brissett, and Jeff Driskel. Coach Will Muschamp said both had great spring practices and that neither one separated themselves from the other. Whether that means both had really good springs or neither had an amazing spring has yet to be seen, but for the sake of the season I hope it’s the first option. It was clear last season that to run the offense effectively the Gators need a capable QB under center. Really though that is true for any team. Cheap Kansas City Chiefs jersey The Gators have a great defense that will keep them in a lot of games, what looks to be a solid running back in senior Mike Gillislee, and a solid veteran offensive line. All they need to finish the puzzle is a quarterback who can get the ball out to their wide receivers who are filled with potential. The Gators haven’t had a top flight receiver since the Percy Harvin era, but part of that is on the quarterback and the lack of being able to get the play-makers the ball. All their receivers are top notch athletes and were top notch recruits, so they can perform if someone can get them the ball.

Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson
The key factor with Johnson is Matt Hasselbeck. He seems to be the perfect fit in Tennessee and has gelled with the team right away. Much was certainly not unexpected for the veteran quarterback who had years of success in Seattle. He is now having a career year with 8 touchdowns already and 1,152 passing yards. When a gift like this is presented to an offense, you often don’t turn away from it. The innate ability to air it out over the first few weeks has contributed more to Chris Johnson’s lack of stat explosion than the typical “Haynesworth” explanation. He already seems to be back on track with his first 100 yard performance of the year in week 4. In retrospect, don’t take CJ2K’s slow start to heart. Teams will strategize more towards Hasselbeck, and there will be more of a balance to Johnson’s favor.

Roddy White
Roddy White
White’s lack of fantasy galore, although he is reluctant to say so, is mainly due to the fact that he’s still recovering from the high thigh bruise that he suffered in the preseason. While still placing 3rd in the league in receptions with 26, the lack of touchdowns have kept his numbers down. His health and rhythm with Matt Ryan will only get better, and Atlanta’s schedule is very favorable.
